Lacy Eugene "Gene" Thornburg, M.D. received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts. He completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa. He further completed a fellowship in hand surgery as a St. Vincent Hand Fellow at the Indiana Hand Center, Indianapolis, Indiana.

Dr. Thornburg was certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in 1998 and received Certificate of Additional Qualifications in Surgery of the Hand in 2006.  He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.  He is a candidate to become a member of the American Society of Surgery of the Hand.
