 James S. Thompson, MD received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine. General surgery training and a bone research fellowship were completed at the University of California in Los Angeles. His orthopaedic surgery residency was completed at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Further, he completed a hand surgery fellowship at the Roosevelt Hospital in New York City. Following his fellowship training, Dr. Thompson entered private practice in Asheville, North Carolina at the Asheville Hand Center where he practiced until 1985. He was board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in 1978 and became a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand in 1980. Dr. Thompson is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Thompson served as Chief of Hand Surgery / Upper Limb Reconstruction in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and as Assistant Professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine from 1985 until he joined Carolina Hand and Sports Medicine, PA in 1990. |
